Job Description: Nuclear Radiation Monitoring Technician
Position Overview:
The Nuclear Radiation Monitoring Technician is responsible for monitoring, measuring, and analyzing radiation levels in nuclear energy facilities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and maintain safe working conditions. This role involves utilizing specialized equipment, conducting regular inspections, and collaborating with the operations team to mitigate potential radiation hazards. Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct routine radiation monitoring and inspections within nuclear energy facilities to identify potential radiation hazards.
2. Operate and calibrate radiation detection equipment, such as Geiger-Muller counters, scintillation detectors, and dosimeters.
3. Collect air, water, soil, and other environmental samples for laboratory analysis to assess radiation levels.
4. Analyze and interpret radiation monitoring data, maintaining accurate records and documentation of findings.
5. Collaborate with the operations team to develop and implement radiation protection measures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
6. Provide guidance and training to employees on radiation safety practices and procedures.
7. Perform regular checks on personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring its proper functionality and availability.
8. Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans in the event of radiation incidents or accidents.
9. Stay updated with the latest developments in radiation monitoring technology and regulatory requirements.
10. Participate in audits and inspections conducted by regulatory bodies, providing necessary documentation and support.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Radiological Sciences, or a related field.
2. Proven experience working as a Nuclear Radiation Monitoring Technician or in a similar role within the nuclear energy industry.
3. Strong knowledge of radiation safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
4. Proficiency in operating and calibrating radiation detection equipment, including Geiger-Muller counters, scintillation detectors, and dosimeters.
5. Ability to collect and analyze environmental samples for radiation content accurately.
6. Excellent data management and record-keeping skills, with acute attention to detail.
7. Familiarity with radiation protection measures and emergency response protocols.
8. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey radiation safety information and procedures to employees.
